Photovoltaic modules in Antwerp warehouse

DB Schenker offers an additional quality control for photovoltaic modules in Antwerp warehouse

(Antwerp, 6 October 2015) Belgian importers or dealers of photovoltaic modules can now have their solar modules tested in the dedicated DB Schenker warehouse in Antwerp to ensure optimum quality. This service is part of DB Schenker’s new product, called DB SCHENKERpvchain, and is offered in partnership with TÜV Rheinland.

Currently five to ten percent of all solar modules are adversely affected by transportation from the manufacturer’s plant to the end customer. Together with TÜV Rheinland, one of the solar industry’s leading testing companies, DB Schenker now offers its customers a new product. DB SCHENKERpvchain monitors the transport throughout the supply chain to have proof of any adverse impact on the modules. The Antwerp warehouse will serve as a pilot lab for this service. Here random EL and flash tests are carried out to verify that modules are performing according to the manufacturers specifications. TÜV Rheinland gathers all the data and test results in a database, which customers can access.

With DB SCHENKERpvchain, the solar modules are checked at four key stages in the supply chain process, namely the inspection of the quality processes and packaging at the manufacturer’s facility, the permanent monitoring of the modules during the overseas transport (with DB SCHENKERsmartbox), EL and flash tests in the Antwerp warehouse and shockwatch stickers to monitor the transportation to the end customer.

Importers and/or dealers using Antwerp as a port of entry can have their modules tested in the DB Schenker local warehouse. As a result, they can be sure that their modules operate as they should, thus avoiding additional costly transportation to Cologne or other test labs.

Based in Antwerp, Schenker nv is one of the Belgian market’s leading integrated logistics service providers and employs 680 staff at eight branches: Antwerp, Brussels, Eupen, Mechelen, Zwevegem, Willebroek, Zaventem and Zeebrugge. DB Schenker Logistics supports industry and trade in the global exchange of goods combining Land Transport, Air and Ocean Freight, Contract Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
