DB Schenker launches a new European Land Transport

Faster, more efficient and ecological

(Antwerp, 13 January, 2016) Global logistics services provider DB Schenker is overhauling its pan-European Land Transport network-concept with the same high service levels. DB Schenker will offer its Land Transport customers all over Europe more departures, faster transit times and more efficient handling by standardising and industrializing processes on a pan-European scale. The so called New Gateway System will be gradually rolled out from 15 January onwards, starting with traffic from and to Belgium, Germany and France.

Three existing products - DB SCHENKERsystem standard, DB SCHENKERsystem top and DB SCHENKERsystem top12 - will no longer be available.
From now on customers can choose from the following:
DB SCHENKERsystem classic, a standard solution for groupage consignments with flexible delivery times.
DB SCHENKERsystem speed for time-critical consignments with the shortest possible, pre-defined delivery time.
DB SCHENKERsystem fixed day for consignments that are delivered on the day set by the customer, which is outside of the standard transit time.

“By offering more loading capacity on the main international routes and standardising the operational processes in all countries, our customers will be able to take advantage of shorter lead times, faster deliveries and more frequent departures. The Schenker nv Land Transport branches in Mechelen, Zwevegem and Eupen will be integrated in the new concept. DB Schenker will use its jumbo fleet with vehicles with two 7.82-metre swap bodies. It will increase the loading capacity per truck. As an ecopioneer, we see it as our responsibility to provide environmentally friendly transportation”, Ulrich Pütz, Managing Director of Schenker nv, explained.

Depending on how the New Gateway System is incorporated in DB Schenker’s pan-European Land Transport network, the existing products will be replaced with DB SCHENKERsystem classic, DB SCHENKERsystem speed and DB SCHENKERsystem fixed day.

Based in Antwerp, Schenker nv is one of the Belgian market’s leading integrated logistics service providers and employs 680 staff at eight branches: Antwerp, Brussels, Eupen, Mechelen, Zwevegem, Willebroek, Zaventem and Zeebrugge. DB Schenker Logistics supports industry and trade in the global exchange of goods combining Land Transport, Air and Ocean Freight, Contract Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
