Greater efficiency, improved safety and greater sustainability are the goals DB Schenker is pursuing with the redevelopment work under way at their premises in Mechelen. There, Schenker nv, one of Belgium’s leading integrated logistics providers, operates an area of almost 18,000 square meters.
The new improvement includes the construction of an additional trucks and trailer park which will offer secured trailer parking 24/7 thanks to new fencing and full camera security and a new modern office building with three floors covering a total of 1,900 square meters which will be constructed between the two existing warehouses and consequently facilitate more efficient communication among staff. Moreover, the site will be equipped with a modern water treatment and seepage system and feature around 4,000 square meters of water-permeable paving. Construction works will be completed by mid-June 2015.
“Most importantly for us, our new premises are built much more sustainably than required by today’s standards,” states Ulrich Pütz, Managing Director at Schenker nv. “As a pioneer of green logistics, we at DB Schenker know that environmental protection is becoming increasingly important for our clients. Many customers are taking the initiative by making verifiable reductions in CO2 footprints, and as their logistics partner we support them in doing so. Green Terminals are one of our four milestone projects for reaching our ambitious goal: We aspire toward reducing our specific CO2 emissions by 20 per cent between 2006 and 2020.”
“Situated next to the main highway between Antwerp and Brussels, Mechelen is the perfect central location for serving our customers in the provinces of Antwerp, Limburg and Flemish Brabant,” says Branch Manager Victor Klaase. With 32 daily international groupage departures to all European countries, Schenker nv in Mechelen is part of the DB Schenker Land Transport network with 720 branches in 36 countries. They are the key product among the wide range of land transport and logistics services offered in Mechelen. Moreover, customers are offered LTL, FTL, rail and intermodal services as well as Value Added Services such as labeling, cargo consolidation and a conveyor belt which facilitates the efficient unloading and loading of loose cartons for further distribution within the European network. “For many customers we have dedicated control tower functions that monitor performance and routings and provide pro-active information when needed,” adds Victor Klaase. “We work proactively with our customers to provide optimum solutions for their land transport related volume.”
Based in Antwerp, Schenker nv is one of the Belgian market’s leading integrated logistics service providers and employs 680 staff at eight branches: Antwerp, Brussels, Eupen, Mechelen, Zwevegem, Willebroek, Zaventem and Zeebrugge. DB Schenker Logistics supports industry and trade in the global exchange of goods combining Land Transport, Air and Ocean Freight, Contract Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
