First column logistics centre DB Schenker Venlo

(Tilburg, 8 March 2017) At the strategically located site ‘Trade Port Noord’ in Venlo the construction of a modern logistics centre has officially been launched on Tuesday 7 March.

The building was presented to the guests through a virtual tour and afterwards the first column was erected at the construction site.

Commissioned by property specialist WDP, contractor Willy Naessens Netherlands builds a logistics center of approximately 50,000 m² for logistics service provider Schenker Logistics Benelux. "The development of this multi-user location strengthens our presence in the logistics hotspot in Venlo and confirms our approach of developing a long-term partnership with our customers," says Rien van Ast, General Manager Netherlands at WDP.

“The construction of this new site is part of our strategy to continuously innovate and improve our sustainability. Our partner WDP will build this logistics centre according to the standards ‘BREAAM Very Good’. These standards contribute to the DB Schenker goal to become eco-pioneer within the Transport and Logistics sector”, says Marcel Wijnhoven, Senior Vice President Contract Logistics at Schenker Logistics Benelux.

The first customer of the new warehouse will be De’Longhi Group, manufacturer of small domestic appliances. From September 2017 around 100 new employees will be working at the logistics centre. With the construction of this new site Schenker Logistics BeNeLux further facilitates in the growth of its customer portfolio and employment in the Venlo region, responding to the still increasing demand for logistics services.

Twan Beurskens, Deputy Economy and Infrastructure of the province of Limburg, is pleased with the new logistics centre. "Congratulations! This high-quality distribution centre connects perfectly with the existing activities in the region, provides additional jobs and strengthens the position of Logistics Trade Port Noord. In 2016, the Venlo-Venray region was elected as logistics hotspot No. 1 of the Netherlands by Logistiek Magazine for the ninth time in a row. The establishment of this new distribution centre of Schenker Logistics Benelux shows that there is still plenty of growth in this economic sector, also in 2017. From the side of the province of Limburg we will continue to work on keeping our regional economy attractive."
