DB Schenker offers exclusive one-stop rail groupage service to China

Recently DB Schenker started a rail groupage service from Europe to China for its customers. This new Eurasia service combines the efficient DB Schenker land transport network in Europe with a weekly rail connection to Wuhan.

Since 2008 DB Schenker has connected China and Europe via rail: at first by dedicated rail shuttles, a couple of years later with a FCL service and now offering LCL services westbound as well as eastbound.

Following the success of the westbound rail groupage service initiated by DB Schenker last year, the logistics service provider enhanced this full door-to-door service eastbound.

Rien Gulden, Head of Multimodal Solutions at Schenker Logistics Benelux: “DB Schenker is the first logistics service provider also offering a regular eastbound rail groupage service from a single source, providing our customers a single point of contact for the transportation of their groupage and part loads to several Chinese destinations. Via our dense land transport network we collect LCL goods throughout Europe and consolidate the consignments in Hamburg. On site the LCL containers are boarded on our China Train, departing for Wuhan every Saturday. In China Schenker handles the complete process, from customs clearance up to delivery to the Chinese final customer.”

With a transit time of 19 days the LCL China Train forms a sustainable and reliable alternative for the slower ocean freight solution and more expensive air freight option.

By steadily enhancing its rail freight solutions in terms of costs, lead time and service options, DB Schenker gained a leading position in the Trans-Eurasian rail connection. Last summer DB Schenker was awarded for its efforts in the continuous development of multiple rail transportation service with the AFLAS, the Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain Award for the Best Rail Freight Service Provider in Asia.

In the Benelux Schenker is one of the top 3 market leaders. With approximately 4,000 employees and 28 logistics centres and offices, Schenker offers complete integrated services for land transport, air freight, ocean freight, contract logistics and supply chain management. Services for fairs and events are also part of the offering. Together with the nine other clusters in Europe, Schenker Logistics BeNeLux forms the region Europe.
