Land transport news

Do you import or export goods from or to Hungary?

When transporting, or having transported, European goods by road to or from Hungary, you have to be aware of the new Hungarian VAT legislation.

Prior to departure all road haulage needs to be registered in the EKAER system of the Hungarian tax authority as of 1 January 2015. Arrival and registration number must also be registered.

With effect from 1 January 1 2015 the Hungarian government introduced the law ‘Electronic Road Transport Control System’ (EKAER) in the fight against corruption and to prevent VAT fraud. The purpose of the EKAER system is to monitor all goods and to ensure that no goods are brought into circulation which were not previously reported to the Hungarian tax authority. The new measure affects the consignor, the carrier as well as the consignee.

For the entry of a Hungary shipment we need the EKAER number.

The EKAER number can only be requested by the buyer or seller in Hungary. Please for this number contact your sender / recipient in Hungary.
